I was in the lobby yesterday as the first group of kids arrived at the Wesley House. Many had their report cards with them and waving them with enthusiasm as they came in. One young man, a 5th grader had a big smile on his face. I said, “What are you grinning about Tevan?” He replied that he had made a B in math this grading period. He went on to explain that he had made a D for the last grading period. I asked him how had he improved so much and he replied, “Because I studied harder…and Mr. Stephen helped me.” That’s what our program is all about. It’s not just the letter grades but just as importantly, it is the pride that the kids feel about their accomplishments. It’s about the trust they put into the staff and volunteers that work with them. It is about taking a step forward and up in the chance for them to become successful and a leader in their home and their community. We just finished compiling the grades and 70% of the children at the Wesley House made the Honor Roll at their schools!!! I also wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of our volunteers. Just 4 years ago, we had 1 volunteer that came on a weekly basis. She along with the board would put in about 25 hours per month in volunteer time. We now have more than 15 regular volunteers plus several groups that do special projects for us. Our board has increased in size AND commitment and several committees are working hard to insure and build the future of the Wesley House. We now average about 175-200 volunteer hours per month! What a blessing from the Lord each of you are. Thank you for your time, effort, and work at the Wesley House. If you are interested in volunteering, please give our Volunteer Coordinator, Sharon Earl, a call at 524-5494. Matthew 10:42 “ And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I will tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” Thank you for your visit to our site and we hope to hear from you soon. Please feel free to contact us here at the Wesley House by calling us at (865) 524-5494 or feel free to email me at Richard@wesleyhouse.com. Richard Gibson
