The main thrust of the Wesley House is a learning/tutoring center for children in grades 1-5. The target service area of the Wesley House is Mechanicsville, Beaumont, and Lonsdale. 89% of the kids in these communities live in a single parent household and aproximately 68% live at or below the poverty level. This new school year of 2005-06 will see WHCC beginning a middle school program as well. The programs are:

  • C.A.R.E.S. – Children’s After-school Recreation, Education, and Support program tutors children in grades 1-5. Staff are trained through the schools Project GRAD program and the Emerald Youth Foundation’s Equipping Leaders system. The children are assisted with academics, life skills, and given spiritual and recreational disciplines throughout the program.

  • T.O.O.L.S. – Teens Overcoming Overwhelming Life Situations tutors and mentors children in middle school. Staff are trained through Project GRAD and the Emerald Youth Foundation’s Equipping Leaders system. Emphasis will be put on cooperation, community involvement, devotions, and volunteerism. The program will be phased in over a 3 year period by adding the 6th grade in 2005, 7th grade in 2006, and the 8th grade in 2007.

  • PACE danceP.A.C.E. – Performing Arts and Cultural Education program offers free instruction to the children in the areas of violin, piano, art, dance, and voice. We also offer instruction in Soccer and Tennis. Here the kids are doing a dance routine with our new partnering agency, Ballet Gloria.

  • W.I.S.E. – Wellness in Seniors Education program focuses on the well being both physically and mentally for senior citizens in the Mechanicsville, Lonsdale, and Beaumont areas. Members are transported from their homes each Friday and brought to the Wesley House for a hot nutritious meal prepared by volunteers. They have social time and informative speakers. Each member also receives a call and/or home visit during the week from a LPN to check on their physical well being.

  • S.T.E.P. - Summer Time Enrichment Program is a full day program that starts after schools let out for summer break. Participants enjoy tutoring, arts & crafts, field trips, swimming, and special events. Breakfast and lunch are served daily. The program runs from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
